We are recruiting the position of Design Engineer to join the team.

If you have served an apprenticeship and have developed a strong background in manufacturing then this may be right career move for you.

The position calls for original thinking and creativity in order to produce a concept to present to the client in readiness for you to develop into to a finished product; this may be accomplished with a simple sketch on a sheet of paper or using CAD to illustrate your ideas. 3D modelling skills are essential in order for you to do this successfully.

Dytel is a compact unit and this provides the opportunity for flexibility and variety, presenting the possibilities of being your own boss, enabling you to use your initiative.

Our designers spend time with the people on the shop floor overseeing the manufacturing process directly and the larger projects may require you to be involved in the final commissioning on the customer’s premises.

Your role will have these responsibilities:

  • CAD model development
  • Design and drawing to manufacturing level
  • Production of  drawings (usually in dxf) required for profiles
  • Calculations of loads and stresses where necessary
  • Identifying specific items with suppliers necessary for the project
  • Liaising with the management team on matters of cost, procurement and manufacturing methods
  • Creation of General Assemblies and Bills of Materials
  • Communicating directly with engineers to discuss technical issues
  • Travelling to clients, usually within the UK but sometimes within the EU and occasionally further.


A certain amount of administration is required; this may comprise writing up items to be inserted in a presentation document or providing documentation at the customers’ request such as operating manuals and maintenance instructions.

Previous experience in the Aerospace industry is not essential; you will work with experienced team players who will assist you to develop your skills.

  • Machining –  manual milling and surface grinding ability to a high standard
  • Working to fine tolerances
  • Hand fitting skills
  • Close attention to finish and pride in the final result
  • The ability to work alone when necessary
  • Inspection of components and complete assemblies; production of inspection reports
